It is December 1st, and there is no denying that the holiday season is in full swing. There is no more holding out for the “right time.” The right time is here and now. December 1st really begins a universal countdown. Once this day hits, time surely seems to whiz right past you.
The countdown starts with Christmas. There are only 25 more days until the main event of December. While that is most of the month, with all the shopping, the parties, the decorating, the baking, the eating, it’ll be here in a blink.
Not only that, but there are only 31 days left in the year 2015. The countdown to the New Year starts way before the evening of the 31st. There are only four weeks left in the year. Only four weeks left to complete that New Year’s resolution you made 11 months ago. What was it again? Take Carmel more often! Still plenty of time to accomplish that!
Still, we love counting down. It is a satisfying feeling to watch time inch closer to a desired event. There is an entire Christmas carol devoted to counting. Whether it’s days, seconds, or drummers drumming, we love to countdown.
For something so universally beloved as Christmas, 25 days really is not that long. Out of 365 days, it is a relatively short amount of time to countdown and celebrate. Though, it is not nearly as short as those final ten seconds of the year that we all love to drunkenly and boisterously proclaim. But these times are loved, regardless of their fleeting nature.
As a child, it felt like the Christmas season lasted forever. It was filled with magic and great anticipation. The countdown to that special day lasted for what felt like eons. The excitement was unbridled and true. You’ve perfectly crafted your wish list, you’ve made cookies, now it’s just waiting for that big guy to hop down the chimney.
And as a child on New Year’s Eve, staying awake itself was a special event. Seeing the hours, minutes, and seconds tick by as midnight slowly approached. Staying awake was half the struggle, but the night was a special one, full of celebration.
Time moves faster now. They (there’s that proverbial “they” that are always saying things. Won’t “they” ever shut up?) always say that the years go by faster as you age. That, unfortunately or fortunately, seems to be true as the yuletide month flies by now. Moreover, staying up to midnight is not a fun, once a year activity, but probably fairly commonplace. Holidays now come with responsibilities that are unable to be neglected.
Still, the countdown occurs as children, as adults, as people who love the season, and those that despise it (bah humbug). We are all counting down to something.
One thing you can always count on is your speedy, reliable, and friendly Carmel Car & Limousine Service (solid transition into advertising, I know). Throughout the holiday season and all through the year, we will be there for you.
